Acrylic (seven-layer technique), tsuishitsu-inspired process

For the artist, design and art are distinct worlds—one driven by constraints and objectives; the other by exploration and joy. This piece inhabits both: layered, revealed, and sanded to let chance and intention co-author the final surface, much like tsuishitsu lacquer craft.

Description

HIROSHI TSUNODA

Born in Tokyo in 1974, he is an industrial designer based in Barcelona since 2000. His work is defined by a precise and functional aesthetic, where geometry, folding, and light become a formal language. Through pieces such as self-assembling lamps or modular structures, he proposes a direct relationship between form and function.

From his studio, HTDS, he develops projects rooted in a meticulous and handcrafted approach, creating objects that merge Japanese tradition with contemporary thinking. This way of creating — where every decision is conscious and material — resonates with the spirit of P(ART), which values authorship and complete mastery of the process.
